Our first full day in LA started off with breakfast with the cast and producer of Young and Hungry. I am not kidding you! We got to chat with them over breakfast. Our small table of 6, 5 bloggers with a cast member rotating to each table, made it a fun and intimate setting to learn a little bit about each star and of course learn about their fun new comedy on ABC Family.
In “Young & Hungry,” two worlds collide when Josh (Jonathan Sadowski Sadowski), a wealthy young tech entrepreneur, meets Gabi (Emily Osment), a feisty young food blogger, looking to be his personal chef. Gabi is desperate for the job and must prove herself, mostly to Josh’s aide ( Rex Lee), who prefers a famous chef for the job. When Josh enlists Gabi to prepare a romantic meal for him and his girlfriend, the dinner goes awry and Gabi finds herself in a very awkward position. With the help of her best friend Sofia (Aimee Carrero) and Josh’s housekeeper (Kym Whitley), Gabi turns a difficult situation into an opportunity for employment and maybe even love.
First to our table was David Holden, the producer of the show!
David told us that he created the show because girls have been supporting characters in sitcoms for years and he wanted to change that. Girls can be funny too! He also hopes others see that you can have a complicated life and go for your dreams while having fun too. Everybody is a little bit of a mess on their own just like the main character Gabi.
He wrote the script to have two key things, jokes and heart. I think Young and Hungry has both!
Our next table guest was Emily Osment!
When we asked Emily how much of her own personality she puts into her character, she told us as much as she could. She thinks that when you put yourself into a character it helps you sell it more. Their trials and tribulations are not the same but they have the same sort of problems, just in different voices. She also told us that like her character Gabi, she’s not afraid to make a fool out of herself. That characteristic has really given her the most confidence with her improve. She also said that her character doesn’t hold back and is a little outrageous just like her. She said she is always the loudest person in the room.
Emily also talked about how thankful she was for her role in Young and Hungry. “I was lucky to go away to school, play some music, travel, and come back to acting. It was nice. I feel really lucky for that.”
Next to our table was Aimee Carrero!
Aimee started off by telling us that she loves being a part of Young and Hungry. She feels like sitcoms were a dieing genre for awhile, and is so happy to be in a show helping it make a comeback. She also loves that the show is filmed in front of a live studio audience. When shooting, they did table reads on Mondays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays they would rehearse. Thursdays they would shoot the more technical scenes and Fridays would be the day when they would tape the show in front of the audience. She explained that she was in the theater when she was younger, and that is why she loves that element of the show.
I would like to thank the cast for taking time out of their busy schedules to talk with us. It was so fun to learn more about their characters and their new hit show! Watch Young and Hungry on Wednesdays at 8:00pm ET/PT.
Tune in tonight at 8:00pm ET/PT on ABC Family for the newest episode of Young and Hungry!
Jesse McCartney will be guest starring!
In the episode, “Young & Punchy,” Josh wants to hire computer genius Cooper Finley (guest star Jesse McCartney), but an awkward incident with Gabi leads Josh to punching Cooper, rather than hiring him. Now Gabi is determined to make things right between them, leading to a different kind of spark between her and Cooper. Meanwhile Elliot and Yolanda each scheme to be the first person to try out the fancy new bathtub Josh had installed.
