My 6 year old daughter loves Barbie. I was excited when she was old enough to actually understand how to play with a Barbie because I spent a good portion of my childhood with mine. My friends and I would meet up, Barbie boxes in hand and play out Barbie and her friends lives. Barbie is a lot different these days but it’s still fun to see my daughter enjoying her as much as I did.
Barbie in the Pink Shoes
is the latest Barbie movie and Moo Moo loved it!
Dance your way to a magical adventure with Barbie as Kristyn, a ballerina with big dreams! When she tries on a pair of sparkling pink shoes, she and her best friend, Hailey, are whisked away to a fantastical ballet world. There, Kristyn discovers she must dance in her favorite ballets in order to defeat an evil Snow Queen. With performances to the legendary Giselle and Swan Lake ballets, it’s a wonderful journey where if you dance with your heart, dreams come true!
Moo was a fan of all of the ballet and she though the story was wonderful. She even pulled out her tutus for the special event and has demanded that we watch it again tomorrow. I love that kids are exposed to beautiful music and dancing without the “boring” adult feel.
As Mom, the coolest thing is the fact that a real ballerina was used for the dancing in this movie. Through motion capture technology, the dance moves of Jennelle Manzi, of the New York City Ballet, are featured in the movie and are also contribute to a video on Barbie.com where girls can:
- Learn how to become a ballerina
- How dance can help with self-esteem
- How you can support and empower your child with their dreams
I think all girls (and their Moms) will love this movie. Make it a Mommy/Daughter date night and create memories together.
Professional Ballerina Jenelle Manzi of the New York City Ballet answers some of our questions and discusses how your little one can become a real life ballerina with Barbie in the Pink Shoes!

My daughter would love this.
They really incorporate the dancing of a real ballerina?! Wow! Does this one also include the ‘outtakes’?
This has become an instant favorite in out house. We have it on the DVR and I think we average about 7 times a week watching it.
I just adored Barbie (and still do) when I was younger!
