Well not really the wall, our floor. Our little monkey climbed up to get a sharpie off of the dining room table, and then proceeded to create a drawing all over our tile floor. Luckily I caught him before he drew anywhere else, but the artist and art teacher in me was so excited to see what happened. The marks can be easily removed. I want Baybah to know that he is free to express himself and let his imagination and creativity run wild.
I love how free he is with his marks, and the look on his face while he is drawing and coloring!
One of my favorite quotes is by the artist Pablo Picasso, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” As a parent, I will do everything I can to foster my child’s creativity and self expression. Not just so that he can be an artist when he grows up, but because creativity will help him with anything he decides to do.
I would love to hear how you create with your child!

I didn’t know that you were a fellow artist! I think that photo up top is incredible – painting with baby strapped in to enjoy the show — I wish that I could manage such balance between parenting and creativity so that I could pass it down to my children. I recently noticed my son showing a bit of an aptitude for drawing, so I bought him a “feild journal” notebook and everyday as part of our preschooling-from-home, we take our field journal outside and we sketch whatever it is we’re discovering that day.
This post totally caught my eye because my son took a bit of crayon to his wall months ago, and even though I’m a nutcase when it comes to keeping my house neat, I haven’t had the heart to remove it until I at least get a picture or something lol
Yay, a fellow artist!! I too have to work on a balance between parenting and creating. My hubs makes time for both, I need to do that too. Whether it is me working on my photography, creating jewelry, or artwork with my son.
I love the idea a field journal! What an amazingly fun way to learn. When I have my students write their vocabulary, I also have them draw a picture of the word to help them remember.
You have to take a picture of it and frame it!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
CUTE!! You are so right – they can be easily removed – I think it maybe time to think about a chalk wall….
Or they have those huge stick on magnetic boards that you can also color on. That would be cool too! Love!
You totally reminded me. I bought chalk dots for him when I was still pregnant. I am going to have to find where the heck I put them. We are going to have to make his playroom into a little art studio too!
Mr. Clean’s Magic Eraser…STOCK UP!
I love the pic of him painting with the hubs!
Isn’t that picture great? It was so fun to watch Baybah’s eyes follow my husbands hand as he painted the canvas.
Thanks for the tip on the Magic Erasers. I will definitely need to stock up for sure!

We have those triangle shaped crayons too! I thought they looked so weird, but my little guy (26 months) LOVES them!
He also loves to finger paint, use play-do, you name it. We love those markers that only work in the special books (so there is no “art” on the walls) and the crayons that only work in the tub.
Yay for creative kiddos!! :)
ps. New follower and blogger here- your blog is awesome!!! I’m hooked! ;)
