Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood | PBS Kids Adorable New Show Coming this Fall

Daniel Tiger PBS Kids

When was the last time someone told you that you are special?  Well, Fred Rogers told an entire nation of children they were special for nearly 34 years.   My husband and I were lucky enough to grow up with Mr. Rogers telling us we were special and his amazingly wondrous neighborhood of make believe.   When we had a child of our own we found that PBS still had fantastic children’s programming, of the top ten children’s programs for toddlers, six of them belong to PBS, but something was still missing. Mister Roger’s Neighborhood has been off air for over 10 years, but that will change this fall.   PBS Kids, Angela Santomero, and the Fred Rogers Company have created Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood based on Fred Rogers work.   They are moving Mister Rogers legacy forward in a whole new modern way.  PBS Kids aims to show preschoolers how to tackle the mysteries of life big and small with the launch of the adorable Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood this fall.

Daniel is the son of Daniel Striped Tiger from the original Mister Rogers Neighborhood,  and all of Daniel’s friends are the sons and daughters of the classic characters in the show too.   Each of the episodes contains, two, 11-minute stories aimed at 2 to 4 year olds.  Daniel often speaks directly into the camera and to his audience, just like Mr. Rogers did.  One aspect of this that I found both extremely cute and clever was that Daniel will sometimes get a little to close to the camera leaving a smudge from his nose on the lens.  Adorable!  The message of each show is in the music.  Each episode has a musical strategy that will help children deal with their feelings.  These coping strategies set to music teach children how to deal with their feelings in a fun and easy to remember way.  I can in fact guarantee long after the show is over you will be singing lyrics like, “When your mad and you want to roar.  Take a deep breath and count to four.”  Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is so cute and I am glad Baybah will get to experience the wonderful land of make believe just like Hubs and I did.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood premiers September 3rd at 11 am right after Elmo on your local PBS station.  The show will re-air at 1:30 pm on weekdays and at 6:30 and 9:30 am on weekends.  Daniel will also be on the PBS Kids App and interactive games.  We cannot wait until the premier this fall!
