When I first saw the previews for Disney-Pixar’s Brave, I was excited to see the 3D film. Who wouldn’t love another Disney Princess? I was excited to see a princess that was out of the ordinary from past princesses, one that is more outspoken, willful, and could stand up for what she believes in.
The movie Brave takes place in mythical medieval Scotland. The heroine of the story is Merida, a tomboy-like princess with a mane of fiery, tangled red hair and a talent for archery. Merida, unlike any of the other Disney princesses, wants to forge her own path in life without a prince by her side. To complicate matters, Merida’s mother and the country of Scotland wants Merida to stand by tradition and marry a prince from one of the three neighboring clans. Merida does not want to marry one of the princes, but wants to find love and happiness on her own. Merida finds an elderly witch that can make her wishes come true… at least she thinks so at the time.
Brave is a story of individual freedom and independence, family and of a mother-daughter relationship going through the teenage rebellious years. I got a little teary eyed a few times during the film. As a mother, it was moving to watch a mother and daughter fight to salvage and mend a broken and tumultuous relationship. By the end of the movie, you will have laughed, cried, and cheered for the happy ending that is, of course, inevitable.
The 3D effects that are used in the film will make you feel like you are riding a horse through the Scottish countryside and make you feel like you are competing at Scotland’s Highland games. And the colors in Brave were like something I have never seen before, the movie was absolutely beautiful. Disney-Pixar has done it again with another touching classic that will keep you begging for more!
Brave hits theaters today June 22nd!!

My mom and I cried too. This is my all time favorite Disney*Pixar movie now. As a mom of girls there were some many things that I felt I would eventually relate too.
