Surprise Dad with a New Grill from Sears this Father’s Day #GrillingIsHappiness

My husband loves to cookout on the grill, I mean REALLY loves it. But his grill has been out of service for the past couple of months. There our grill sits totally incapacitated collecting dust and getting faded by the hot desert sun. And there my Hubs sits, a true master of the grill without his grill. It is really a sad sight to see.

With Father’s Day coming up I thought I would give him the surprise of all surprises and get him a grill that he has only dreamed of. We were just talking about this the other day. He told me that if he could get any grill he wanted he would get a grill that converts to natural gas so that it could be hooked up to our house so that we would no longer have to worry about getting lp tanks. He also told me that he wanted a grill with a side burner so we would not have to use our stove at all when cooking out, and a temperature gauge that was built right into the grill so he can control the temperature inside. Armed with a few hints from Hubs, Baybah and I embarked on a grill shopping odyssey at my husbands favorite place for tools, Sears.

Before we walked into Sears I knew about the grills that they had to offer because I researched them online at Sears.com. They have a grill finder on their website that made it really easy to search for the right options for my husbands grilling needs and within our budget.

I selected 5 favorites using the grill finder and could not wait to see them in person. When we walked up to the grilling section the first grill I saw was one of my favorites, the Kenmore 4 Burner Gas Grill- Mocha. I really loved the look of this grill. It had 4 burners, one of which was a steamer, and a burner on the side. The only thing that was missing was that it did not convert to natural gas. Even though it did not have everything I wanted, that Mocha finish kept it on my list. I kept thinking how pretty it would look in our backyard.

I also loved the Kenmore 4 Burner Gas Grill with Open Storage. That open storage space on the side would really come in handy. Between that and the side burner, this grill stayed in my top 5 for sure. But unfortunately it does not connect to natural gas either. I really loved both of these grills, but really wanted to get Hubs his dream grill.

I looked through the Sears Simply Outdoors Catalog for mor grilling inspiration! I want his grill to be perfect!! With so many options, this is really a tough choice!

But then I turned the corner and found this beauty, the Kenmore Steam and Grill. It was another one of my favorites on the list. With the exclusive steamer option, my husband could grill and steam at the same time. It also had a side burner, fully enclosed cart, pull-out shelf extension, and towel holder. On top of all of those features it is also able to connect to natural gas. This one had it all. Even though it was a little more than what I wanted to spend I knew that this was the grill of my husband dreams. I was happy to hear from the salesman that I could save some money by signing up for their Shop Your Way Rewards Program. I would also earn points with every purchase and receive exclusive discounts.

Sears did not have that grill in stock so they offered me the floor model. I was kind of happy about this because that meant that I did not have to put it together. Sears loaded the grill on the back of my truck for me and Baybah and I headed home. My brother helped me get it in the backyard once we got home. Now, all Baybah and I had to do was wait for Hubs to get home. I heard him pull into the garage so Baybah and I ran outside for the big Father’s Day SURPRISE!

Hubs was so shocked when he saw the grill he was practically speechless. The first thing he did was throw a few burgers on to try it out. He loved it!! We decided to have a cookout the next day to celebrate and so that Hubs could show off his mad grilling skills. He made us Salmon with White Peach Salsa, Hubs Downtown Potatoes, Chile Relleno, Corn on the Cob, Homemade Salsa, and Cole Slaw. It was DELICIOUS!!

Downtown Potatoes

I thought I would share with you the recipe to one of his classics, Downtown Potatoes.

1. Slice 5 potatoes and 1 onion.
2. Finely chop 3 sprigs of fresh rosemary.
3. Put onions, potatoes, and rosemary in a large ziplock bag.
4. Add a quarter cup of olive oil and a little garlic salt.
5. Shake the bag vigorously so that everything is evenly coated.
6. Divide the potatoes equally onto foil and fold into foil pockets.
7. Place on a 350 grill for about 30 minutes.

These grilled potatoes come out perfect every time!

My husband said, “This is the best Father’s Day gift ever!”
