How to Clean Crayon Off of a Microfiber Couch

The Day that Pinterest Saved My Couch

If you do not know by now, I am a Pinterest fanatic. It is my happy place. The place I look when I need inspiration, eye candy, or just as a place to browse. It is a place I like to go when I should be getting work done, cleaning the house, or I do not know, organizing the pantry. Okay, so I am sure you get it by now. Little did I know this place of inspiration was going to save the day!

You might also know that my little man is quite the artist.  He loves to draw everywhere, and I mean everywhere.  At first I embraced it and thought it was cute, but then the unthinkable happened, he colored on my couch with a blue (& green) crayon.  When I saw this I was not thinking happy thoughts of Harold and the Purple Crayon, I was thinking quite the opposite.  I figured there was nothing we could do, and I was just going to have to deal with it until we got a new couch.  Gives it character, right?

I had moved on from the blue crayon incident and accepted it. Until one day I found a glimmer of hope on you guessed it, Pinterest.  While browsing I found a way to clean dirt off of a microfiber couch using rubbing alcohol.   Would this work with crayon too?    Could this be the answer to my dreams?  I decided to give it a shot.  There is no way it could not get any worse.

Picnik collage

1. I sprayed it with a light mist of rubbing alcohol just to get it damp.
2. Scrubbed it with a new sponge.
3. Let it dry. Completely.
4. Brushed it with a new scrubbing brush to get the microfiber soft again.

And . . .

Voila!  It works on crayon too!  Thank you Pinterest! Without you I would have never found a way to save my couch! And thank you  ChrisandRobinsNest for the great idea!

My hubby was the culprit of course….all that mayo….he was mortified cause he knew he was in trouble. So thankful it came out you know being grease and all!

I’m looking forward to meeting you at the KBS this weekend. Are you flying in from warm weather too? I’m in South Florida. I’m going to FREEZE!! ;)

I have to say that I just tried this and it required a little elbow grease but the bright white crayon marks that my son used to color my chocolate brown microfiber/endurosuede couch came off cant even tell they were there!!! I saw this on pinterest just to clean microfiber not necessarily to get crayon off and when he decided to color the couch this is the first trick I tried thank you google and pinterest

  29. THANK YOU!!! I just discovered a “masterpiece” on the end of our light beige, microfiber couch in black crayon. I took your advice and gone just like that. I appreciate you sharing this tip for us. :)

  30. I tried this as well! My son drew a masterpiece on the whole entire back side of my mom’s couch…in many colors! The black, white, and green came out. But the yellow, red, light green, and light blue will not come out. Going to try a few more times.

Thank you so much for the post, you just saved my couch!!! I did as you said and it came out no problem. I didn’t even need to scrub that hard.

  32. I think you just saved my son’s life. (just kidding it would never endanger my kiddos). He just marked all over a chair that matches a living room set. I was sure it was destined for the dump. I figured even Goodwill wouldn’t want this custom piece of furniture. This worked amazingly well. THANK YOU!!!!
