CJ Adams is the young star of Disney’s latest film The Odd Life of Timothy Green. The director of the film, Peter Hedges, knew right away after CJ’s interview for the film that he would be perfect boy to play Timothy Green. (They also worked with each other in the past on Dan in Real Life.) Hedges said, “There is something about CJ that can be both silly and heartbreaking. This film is such a mixture of drama and comedy that our cast had to be able to switch gears at any moment.” Co-star Jennifer Garner, who plays his mother in the film Cindy Green, has said that CJ is very much like his character Timothy with an incredible heart and outlook on the world. After being able to participate in a phone interview with CJ Adams, I learned how sweet this 12 year old was in real life too.

What was your favorite part about playing Timothy Green?
CJ- Probably my favorite part of playing the character of Timothy Green was just being such a sweet boy. I just liked to play someone who was different and unique. That’s what I loved about being Timothy.
Did you get any advice from Jennifer and Joel while working with them?
CJ- They told me to become the character. Make your Timothy by putting all of his qualities together and become him.
Of all the qualities that your parents wished you would have, what was your favorite quality that you had and why?
CJ- Having a good heart because whats most important is treating people the way that you want them to treat you. That’s what I thought was probably the most important.
What do you think grown ups could learn from Timothy Green?
CJ- What I think grownups can learn from Timothy Green is that you should always take care of your kids and always have their back rather than always, like, on their case, you know?
What do you want kids to learn from the film?
CJ- I want kids to learn that no matter how a person acts, or who the person is, like a bully or something, I want them to treat others the exact same way they want to be treated and then they will treat you that same way.
How did you prepare yourself to play Timothy Green?
CJ- Well, the way I prepared myself to play Timothy Green was, I learned all of his personalities by reading the script and I crafted my Timothy by putting all those personalities together. And then I became that Timothy, that’s really how I played him.
Besides The Odd Life of Timothy Green of course, what’s one of your favorite movies?
CJ- Probably my favorite movie other than the Odd Life of Timothy Green is The Avengers because it was so well done. I thought it was really cool to watch.
