Can you believe that the release of The Muppets is only 3 days away?! After seeing a screening of The Muppets this past weekend I am in even more love with The Muppets. It was nostalgic, new, fresh and fun! I cannot wait to share with you my review of the movie. But until then, I hope you enjoy the interviews with those that helped make the movie possible and some more Muppet fun I have planned for you.
Welcome to Muppets Monday!
The Muppets Original Soundtrack is now available! The soundtrack features favorites like The Muppet Show Theme Song, Mahna, Mahna, and Rainbow Connection, but also newly recorded songs written by Flight of Conchords Bret McKenzie. He wrote four songs for the film Life’s a Happy Song, Let’s Talk about Me, Me Party, and Man or a Muppet, and they were awesome!!
James Bobin’s, director of The Muppets, talks about getting Bret McKenzie involved in the film.
He’s one of my best friends so, uh, you know, when I got the gig I said, I phoned up pretty much straight away and said, “Are you… what are you doing? You… you know…” And he’s around. And he’s also, on CONCHORDS we’d watch Muppet show quite a lot, I mean, we, in season two of CONCHORDS, we did an episode where Mel, who is their fan, sings a song. And in that song there are singing cookies because of the Muppet show. Because always the Muppet show is one of our things we used to do in our spare time. When writing we’d just relax and watch Muppet show and so Bret’s a huge fan too and so was very keen to be involved.
And, you know, in a way it was like doing honor to the Conchord because it’s an hour and a half long, as a film, because we had a story and we had songs were gonna go roughly and so he and I sat down and worked out what would make sense in terms of story and what is a funny idea, what’s a funny song for the moment. And there’s no one better in the whole world to think of that than him. He has done a great job. I am really pleased. And it is always great to work with your friends.
Jason Segel also thought Bret McKenzie was a perfect choice for the music.
Bret McKenzie from Flight of the Conchords wrote most of the music, which was a perfect match. Because if you think about it, Flight of the Conchord’s are Muppety. Two kind of wide-eyes innocents dwelling through like, you know the hard cruel world and that’s very much what the Muppets are like.
I cannot wait to get the soundtrack. Hubs and I have been singing the songs since we saw the film. My favorites were Life’s a Happy Song, Man or Muppet, Smells Like Teen Spirit, and of course the classic Rainbow Connection! Oh, and because I love this I have to share. Check out this video of Bret McKenzie singing Life’s a Happy Song with Kermit the Frog. It is adorable!
THE MUPPETS opens in theaters everywhere on November 23rd!
Disclosure: Disney/DreamWorks provided me with an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles for the press junket for The Muppets. All thoughts expressed are my own.

i love flight of the conchords!
Me too! Man or a Muppet is hysterical, and so Conchords!
Oh even MORE awesome! I’ve been so excited about this movie since I first read about it years ago when it was barely in the works. I adore Jason Segel, and I really adore Bret Mckenzie. I love Flight of the Conchords, and so do my kids. “She’s So Hot Boom” is one of my 10 year old daughter’s favorite songs on my ipod :) I can’t wait to see the movie, and now I’m dying to hear the soundtrack, too. Completely awesome. Thanks for this info!
