The Thanksgiving books for kids list was a big hit so I thought I would compile a list of some wonderful Christmas Books for Kids for you to share with your eager little readers. I chose books that are a bit off the grid in hopes to introduce you to some new options from the classics we grew up loving.
With that said however, your home library must also have a few staples that I have listed by title and author at the bottom. If you do not own these get yourself to the store, amazon or to your local library STAT! These are required books to read to and with your little ones. Okay, I kid. Maybe? Anyhow, here are my top 8 books this Christmas season. Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas and Happy Reading Friends!
Merry Christmas Stinky Face by Lisa McCourt
This humorous book will leave you and your stinky face giggling over the concerns brought up by the child. Mama does what every Mama does best to address each concern.
The Legend of the Poinsettia by Tomie de Paola
Pepita, a poor Mexican girl can only offer the Christ Child weeds. To her surprise and delight because her gift was presented with love those weeds turn to beautiful red flowers. Every year since then the weeds turn red during the Christmas season. This is a truly beautiful retold story by Tomie de Paola.
Duck & Goose- It’s Time for Christmas by Tad Hills
This is a perfect story to teach your little one about sharing responsibilities this holiday season. Goose is enjoying all the fun while Duck is left to decorate the Christmas tree all on his own.
Baby’s 1st Christmas by Chiar Bordoni
This special little book comes with a CD to follow along with the beautifully illustrated pages.
The Spirit of Christmas by Nancy Tillman
This is my number 1 pick! Nancy Tillman nails yet another beautiful story that makes me cry! The story is about what Christmas is truly about- sharing our holiday with the ones we love. If you don’t know of Tillman please check out her other books, I can’t say enough about her way with words! Gorgeous illustrations with equally beautiful storylines about love.
The Berenstain Bears and the Joy of Giving by Jan and Mike Berenstain
Leave it to our favorite family of bears to teach us a moral about the true meaning of Christmas. Brother and Sister Bear learn the joy of giving!
Santa’s Stuck by Rhonda Gowler Greene
The title says it all! Find out how and just how many “helpers” Santa needs to get loose! A laugh-out-loud silly story of the man dressed in red.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson
A very unlikely family takes over the towns annual Christmas pageant. Their interpretations of how things occurred are quite skewed but somehow it becomes the best pageant yet.
And of course, you have to have these Christmas Book Collection Staples!
